I have hiked these cliffs since I was a kid. Over my seven years of guiding groups through the High Atlas, I learned exactly what older hikers need. 1. Café by the Water to The Spring of the Holy Fish Loop
Start this gentle walk from Kasbah Taborithe. It takes you directly to the natural spring where our local community protects the sacred fish. The maximum elevation is 1393 meters, and the total ascent is only 81 meters. This is my absolute favorite sunset walk for older groups. You can finish the loop and stop at the riverside cafe for a pot of mint tea. Just remember not to feed or disturb the fish. Protecting these local spots is a core part of Berber village etiquette.
2. Tinghir Palm Grove to Ait Ismene Kasbah Loop
This is a very flat and easy route starting from Toudgha El Oulia. The total ascent here is an incredibly mild 29 meters. This path highlights the old earthen architecture of the region. It is a fantastic option if you want to see traditional farming plots up close without straining your knees. Please stay on the main dirt paths. 3. Tinghir Palm Grove to The Spring of the Holy Fish (Direct Route)
If you want a slightly shorter variation through the palm grove, this is the best option. It is ideal if you are looking for a quick walk entirely in the shade of the trees. The ascent is barely noticeable at 22 meters. You will see the complex system of water channels up close. Just watch your step on the narrow dirt banks next to the water. They can occasionally get soft or slippery.
Bonus Stop: The Wooden Bridge Over the Stream If you still have energy after the main trails, there is a path crossing the main waterway via a traditional wooden bridge near Toudgha El Oulia. The bridge is a fantastic photo spot. The ascent is 67 meters, making it perfectly comfortable in standard walking shoes.
